I mentioned I had a theory regarding the huge difference in responses to the World of HOPE campaign. The comparative statistics between normal children’s clothing stores and fair trade stores were interestingly revealing. (children’s clothing stores, 50% would listen, Fair Trade stores, 90% would listen). And remember, what we sell predominantly is children’s clothing!

With the state of the economy a lot of businesses in my opinion are in fear mode. And when one is in fear mode, one can not find innovative solutions. Even if a solution comes knocking on one’s door. Trust me, I know from experience. I actually think that fair trade stores are in less of a fear mode because they’re already working for a greater cause. They are working philanthropically which gives them a healthy dose of faith everyday they walk into their stores. They believe in what they are doing. The effect of each individual sale is more tangible when you see a picture or know something about the lifestyle of the artisan who made the product that you are selling/buying. Fair trade—-just keeps it real! And when you face reality everyday and dedicate your life to changing it, well—when the you-know-what hits the fan, it’s not quite as shocking and paralyzing.
And there you have it: Gina’s make-sense-of-it-all theory. Hmmm.
By the way, totally off the subject: the kitchen is horrendous. What on earth was I thinking? I have to black out all the pink now! Which is going to be such a boring job. But whatever, I can’t stand looking at it the way it is, it’s making me dizzy.
Cheers & Ciao for Now,
Gina
