There are some things in England that just wouldn’t fly with Americans. Mainly inefficiency. We have a very low tolerance for that type of stuff. Well okay to be fair, perhaps others would not have a problem, but I have a very very low tolerance for it. And after two months here, I realize I wouldn’t trade my efficiency for anything. And trust me; my efficiency is nothing more than normal American efficiency.
Every time I am here I gripe about the English parking lot system.
In a country where the sun rarely shines and where it is not just cold but rainy, this is the paying system that they came up with:
First you find your parking spot. Then you get out of your car in the rain and walk to a machine at the front of the parking lot in the rain. (Which is nowhere near your automobile). You then try to find the correct change (the machine does not accept bills) in the rain. You ask the guy next to you if he has change or he asks you if you have change. In the rain you trade notes for pence and then you trudge back to your car in the rain, put the ticket on the dashboard, and then finally proceed to your shopping destination. In the rain.
Now just imagine this process with 3 kids.
Need I say more?
Cheers & Ciao for Now,
Gina
