You Say Tomato..

With one quarter British blood, (well actually more since I’ve got some in my mutt half) it would only be expected that the children, after spending a month and a half in England, would be connecting with their English roots. And certainly it is happening and I find it rather amusing.

Cricket anyone?
Kai has been determined the cricket champion of his summer sport’s camp. Now THAT is about as funny as it gets. I even said to Greg, “Now this cricket playing isn’t going to foul him up when it comes to playing baseball, now is it???” His second favorite sport is now tennis. Next he’ll be playing squash.

You say tomato.
For some reason the theater came up at the dinner table. Deva was talking about the “theater” when Kai quickly corrected her with “theatre”. The funny thing about this is that Kai normally has an American accent and Deva’s leans towards the English side. However with the word “theater” or “theatre” they’ve completely swapped accents. After an intense argument between the two of them, we had to sort them out and tell them which one was American and which one was English and how they are both correct.

The thing you put groceries in at the super market.
< Yesterday as we were leaving the grocery store, I told Kai to get out of the cart. He told me that it wasn’t a cart, it was a trolly. I laughed and teasingly told him that it was only a trolly if you’re English! Kai was insisting that it was not the case. So I just smiled and laughed at him and his Daddy and said, “Don’t worry, Mommy won’t let you wear a red coat, if you find yourself in a tight spot.” Of course it was way over Kai’s head, but I got a chuckle out of Greg.

When it’s time to change, you’ve got to rearrange. Deva has noticed how her grandparents aren’t very comfortable with change. (It’s a British thing.) I rearranged the furniture in the house for Laurence’s 70th birthday party. The kids said they really liked it. Only when it was dinner time and she really noticed the placement of the table, did she look at me wide eyed, and sternly announce, “You are going to ruin granddads life!” I asked her why and she replied simply “because he likes to sit in his chair here and listen to music.” I glanced at Greg and said, “oh we don’t have to worry about that, I ruined his life ten years ago!!” Another comment over their heads!

Cheers & Ciao for Now,

Gina
