A table

Time to sit down – now get comfortable!

The kids are being so fantastic. You’ve been hearing me complain about the serious differences in eating habits between the US and France, but imagine how Kai and Deva have been getting on. I think I may have failed to mention how LONG we sit at the table. And how LONG it takes to get on to the next course. Anyhow last night I about doubled over with laughter. Deva absolutely LOVES the plain yoghurt here. After the main course she wants her yoghurt immediately and of course that is not done here. So last night as the cheese course arrived, Kai looked over at Deva and whisper-sighed, “We’re almost there, Deva.” Thank God they have each other. The poor things don’t even have the wine to get them through it!

It has been atrocious finding time to work and that very fact is grating on my nerves. Basically it’s just getting hard moving from house to house, dragging the children’s clothing and books and toys here there and everywhere. Every relative has a new set of rules for them and I honestly think it would be easier moving from hotel to hotel because we could at least be on our own schedules. Because dinner is so late, the kids are going to bed extremely late and are therefore cranky during the day. This really isn’t tolerated by the French, well at least the French family I belong to. But the differences in child rearing is a whole different blog altogether. I’m still processing that one.

On a happy note, I’m in love with this fabulous fair trade cheese from Haute Savoie which is in the Alps. It is soooo good. With a bit of mustard, it is scrumptious. I do hope it’s on the cheese tray tonight, if only I can stay awake long enough for that course, of course!

Cheers & Ciao for now—Gina
